"The people are good" reflection of a cyclist traveling

Although fear is inherent in human beings, not difficult meet people who have a perception of the world we live deluged é ste.

This extreme fear and mistrust (which one way or another is present in all of us) is largely caused by messages with which we are bombarded daily from media consciously and unconsciously, and has among its consequences the conformism to what exists, because people are afraid to lose, so act as ballast when trying to change anything. also contributes to human empathy shot and extend a selfish vision of the world, and think that this world is based on "stepping on others to avoid being stepped on by others," vision that is even stronger when accompanied by ignorance and lack . In the latter case, the unknown or "different" are even more suspicious and enemies, thus giving rise to the proliferation of prejudices of all kinds.

All this forms a breeding ground, leading many to believe that human beings are "bad" in nature.
I have come across an article ( http://quieroentenderelmundo.wordpress.com/2009/11/17/la-gente-es-buena/ ) of a cyclist covered a bit of this and puts it from his personal experience:

"One of the things I've learned traveling by bike is that many more people good that bad people in the world.

No, Really! I have not gone mad.

In my defense I must say that 'm not the only who thinks that. Almost everyone who has traveled enough commune with this idea.

not often say out loud because when I did I received accompanied by looks ironic half smile from my partner that I can only interpret as they think I'm idealistic, naive, young and inexperienced, idiot or direct all these things together.

And it's hard to blame them. If you spend time consuming media communication is likely to have come directly to opposite conclusion: namely, that the world is a dangerous place in which to live and explore can only have one result-death- . Travel is to find out what degree of sadism can this happen.

see on TV almost daily news of mass killings carried out by crazy fans or mafia, prostitution, drug addiction, theft, white collar suburbs where one does not stop at the stops and misfortunes of many different coats whose intensity and morbidity will crescendo.

misfortunes do not deny that and the evil beings exist, but what you see on TV is not the world . What you see on TV is a small part of the world (only that tiny part that something has happened that day) as seen through the eyes of an employee who claims more or less money depending on the number of people which is capable of attracting attention.

When you stop to street level and travel the world begins to realize several things:

a) People are not equal to the villages and towns have nothing to do with governments . That is, Iran is a dictatorial government, but that does not mean that its people are dictators or wicked people. It just means they have a bad government. On TV, however, appear only rarely peoples and governments and people.

b) That people do not react as you expect not mean they are bad people. Possibly just mean that there is a culture shock between you and them. That is, what for you is a sign of a French education can be a sign of laziness or greed. What for you is something unbalanced and noisy, another may be a form of entertainment. Possibly hard to understand this because on TV only hear one side of the story: the reporter who comes from our culture.

c) In general there is a problem of expectations . The media, the consumer society are taught to expect too much too fast (eg, lose 5 kilos in three weeks), but the world works differently.

When you spend many hours on the saddle of a bike discover that life is not made of great moments but small moments, like the smell of newly irrigated land, a casual conversation with someone you met while waiting outside supermarket, or a deer that crosses your path as evening.

Similarly, the generosity of people rarely expressed in gestures, but rather with small, those who will hold the subway door to enter, those who run behind you to give back something you have been dropped or offer you a place to sleep when it rains and there is nothing to take refuge in km radius. And every day, inadvertently received dozens of these gestures. However

expect others to do that is wrong. Because the generosity calls, only receive . If you continually expect things from others can only reach one conclusion: the world is full of selfish, when it should reach another: maybe I'm so selfish that I get in the place of another: can the others do I ask?

So if you travel by bike ever may reach the same conclusion I have come . That the world is a good place, full of generous and kind people, who think differently but feels like you and that is not always willing to give you what you want or need. That does not make them bad or selfish, but simply human.

But do not tell anyone because they think they are idealistic, naive, young and inexperienced, dumb or direct it all together ".
